Crossroads Student Receives Academic Honors
One recent evening, surrounded by students waiting to be inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, Janice turned to her friend and said, “I can’t believe I’m here. Pinch me!” Academic success is surprising and sweet for Janice when she considers how far she’s come and how different life was just 3 short years ago.

Janice says that the process of pursuing an education has allowed her to “transition to a new level of sobriety and deeper healing…my classes have led to internal growth.” She acknowledges another Crossroads client who recently received a Bachelor’s degree from UNM. “I would listen to her talk about her education, what it meant to her and how it helped her grow in her recovery. Watching her progress gave me a boost. She set a path for me.”

Janice will graduate CNM this fall and plans to pursue a Bachelor’s degree from Highlands University. Her ultimate goal is to become a mediator and advocate for “people who struggle with homelessness and alcoholism.”

Congratulations Janice! You did it!
