CREW NM Supports Women at Crossroads in Overcoming Employment Challenges

CREW WorkshopOn June 19th, 2014 Crossroads for Women partnered with CREW NM, Women in Commercial Real Estate, to facilitate a half day, vocational workshop for Maya’s Place and Crossroads clients. Held on the second floor of the downtown Wellsfargo bank, the workshop allowed participants to engage in mock interviews with CREW members. One Crossroads client stated, “I liked the idea of being able to practice interviewing with somebody I did not know because I will more than likely not know the person I am interviewing with to get a job in the future.”

Additionally, workshop participants received guidance regarding appropriate interview attire and acquired new outfits and accessories, provided by CREW, for future job interviews.

Participants commented that walking into the workshop and seeing the time put in to organizing the event made them feel special. “The women from CREW truly care about our success!” Another client stated,” We are part of a bigger picture. Like CREW members, we can succeed as women, despite the challenges we face. These women are my mentors!”

The women at Maya’s Place and Crossroads face multiple challenges in securing employment including, lack of employment experience, lack of education, criminal records, deficiencies in life skills and fears of repeating failures. Support from community partners like CREW NM, increases job seeking skills, resources and improves opportunities for vocational success. Employment is not only a necessity for achieving financial self-sufficiency; it also contributes to stability in recovery which, in turn, contributes to stability in employment.

Thank you CREW for helping to strengthen the women’s skill-sets AND self-worth!
