Moving Forward at the Crossroads of My Life: A Digital Storytelling Project
A digital story is a short, first person narrative that combines recorded voice, still and moving images, and music in order to share a personal experience. The women at The Crossroad’s and Maya’s Place are at different stages in their lives and all hope to build a better future. The aim of this project is to give the women an opportunity to share and create their future stories. It is the hope of this project that participants will be empowered to dream, create and own their futures.
“Moving Forward at the Crossroads of My Life” will assist individuals as they create goals for their future and problem solve barriers. This project will support participants in being creative and will hold space for participants to dream about their prospective futures. Participants will learn computer and technical skills as they become familiar with related software and equipment.
“Moving Forward at the Crossroads of My Life” will involve four workshops in which individuals will participate in self-discovery and story development activities. Each participant will have an opportunity to explore their personal story through visualization and creative writing. Upon completion of the workshops, participants will have the chance to continue to build their stories working one-on-one with staff and volunteers of Crossroads for Women.
During this time, the women’s stories will be recorded, edited and a DVD will be created. Participants can then share their story with family and friends. Moving Forward at the Crossroad’s of My Life is meant to compliment other support groups that participants may be involved in and to supplement the positive steps the women take as they create new lives for themselves.
